What is GA4?

Google Analytics 4 measures what people do on websites and apps. Unlike Universal Analytics, which it replaced in July 2023, it records everything as events, models conversions across devices and uses consent mode to fill gaps where visitors decline tracking.

On its own it answers what happened. Joined with Search Console in Looker Studio, it starts to answer why.

How I use GA4

GA4 is on every SEO project I run, and in my current role I set up consent-safe analytics. In my open framework for AI on WordPress, AI Content Planner reads GA4 through its Data API alongside Search Console and keyword research to shape the monthly content plan.

With Search Console beside it in Looker Studio, it is how I show whether a change worked.
