The brief

Osler Bluff is a private ski club in Ontario's Blue Mountains with winter and summer programs, private events and a membership that goes back generations. The homepage has to welcome new families, serve current members and sell summer access, all at once.

What I did

As Senior Web Designer and Developer at Jonas Club Software, I designed and built it end to end. The hero carries three direct routes, View Membership, Legacy Membership and Summer Club Access Passes, then a welcome that tells the club's story, then three photo tiles for the club, its programs and special occasions. Conditions and the trail map sit in a slim bar above everything.

Visual concept

Playfair Display, a high-contrast serif with sharp hairlines, gives the welcome a sense of occasion, the tone of a club that has been on the escarpment for generations. Raleway keeps the text and buttons light and modern, so families who are new to the club find their way without the page feeling formal.

Navy (#122240) holds the top bar, the frames and the footer, the colour of a winter evening on the hill. A bright orange (#f07f2b) marks the active page and the details, the colour of a trail marker against snow, and soft grey (#f4f4f4) and white keep the middle of the page open for the photography.

Glass over the hill

I used glassmorphism where the photography is the point. Hover one of the three doors on the homepage, Our Club, Programs or Special Occasions, and the photo frosts over into navy glass, so the title stands out without hiding the picture.

On the Event Space page, each room's description sits on a frosted white panel that overlaps the photograph beside it: you read the text and still see the room through the edge of the glass.

The homepage, section by section

  1. A slim top bar for Conditions and Trail Map, above the main navigation and Member Login.
  2. A photographic hero with Welcome to Osler Bluff Ski Club and three buttons for membership and summer passes.
  3. Welcome to Osler Bluff: the club's story in a single column.
  4. Three framed tiles: Our Club, Programs, Special Occasions.
  5. A navy footer with contact, location and social links.
