Captured from the live site in October 2026. Clients keep their sites moving after handover, so some details differ from the version I delivered.
The brief
The Lansdowne Club is a private members' club in an eighteenth-century house on Berkeley Square, with dining, sport, rooms and a full events calendar. The site has to show all of it and still keep the calm of the building.
What I did
I designed and built the site as Senior Web Designer and Developer at Jonas Club Software. The homepage works as a sequence of pillars: each opens on a full-width photograph with a two-line title, a script word over a capital word, then a framed image with a single vertical word beside the copy: Indulge, Train, Rest, Experience.
Visual concept
Brandon Grotesque sets the headings in capitals, a geometric sans with the warmth of the 1920s and 30s types it draws on, so A CLUB FOR GASTRONOMY reads like lettering on a period building rather than a tech brand. Baskervville takes the text, a revival of John Baskerville's eighteenth-century letters, the same century as the house on Berkeley Square. Over each photograph a light italic word sits above a word in capitals, Exquisite over Dishes, so every pillar opens with a little ceremony.
Navy (#002554) and old gold (#b89d18) carry the brand: navy for the long panels and buttons, gold for the frames and the Become a Member button, used sparingly so it stays precious. Around them sit the club's own department colours, one for each part of the club, and the art deco fan pattern of the footer takes on whichever one the page belongs to.

A colour for every department
The club already gave each of its departments a colour. I worked with the team to carry that into the website, so every page is colour coordinated and members always know where they are: Dining is forest green, Sports & Wellbeing teal, Weddings a pale aqua, Meetings & Events plum, and the club's own pages stay navy, with old gold for the accents.
The colour follows you through the department: it tints the photo tiles, runs into the section edges and repaints the art deco footer. Same layout, same pattern, a different room of the house.

- Unparalleled Wellness, then A Club for Wellbeing, with the pool and the gym.

- Exclusive Events, then A Club for Socialising, and the club's name as a type lockup.
