What is MCP?
The Model Context Protocol, introduced by Anthropic in November 2024, is an open standard for connecting AI applications to the tools and data they need. A server exposes tools, resources and prompts in a standard way, and any compatible client, from Claude to a code editor, can use them.
It replaces one-off integrations with a common plug. Build an MCP server once, and every MCP-aware agent can work with your system through the tools you chose to expose, with the guardrails you put on them.
How I use MCP
MCP is at the centre of my open framework for AI on WordPress: an MCP server on AI Workbench Hub, built on WordPress's Abilities API, lets AI agents work on a site through the same guarded operations editors use, with abilities set per role.
I build with Claude Code against written specs, so I use MCP as a client every day as well as building for it.
