What is WP REST API?
The WordPress REST API exposes a site's content as JSON over HTTP: posts, pages, users, media and taxonomies, each at its own route. In core since WordPress 4.7, in 2016, it is what the block editor itself uses to save your work.
Developers register their own routes for anything else, which turns WordPress into a back end for apps, headless front ends, integrations and AI tools, as long as every route checks permissions properly.
How I use WP REST API
My plugins' React screens, background jobs and AI pipelines talk to WordPress through REST routes, with nonce and capability checks on every write.
The same habits carry into integrations with other APIs: a CRM behind a site's forms, a review platform behind its testimonials, and fintech platforms wired into a WordPress multisite at GPS Wealth.
