What is OpenAI API?
The OpenAI API gives software access to OpenAI's models, the family behind ChatGPT, for text generation, structured output, tool calling, embeddings, images and speech. It opened to developers in 2020.
For AI visibility work it is also a way to ask the questions buyers ask ChatGPT and see what comes back.
How I use OpenAI API
I call the OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini APIs from WordPress plugins and route each job to the model that suits it. In my open framework for AI on WordPress, AI Workbench Hub routes work across all three, and AI visibility checks ask the same buyer questions of ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity each month.
