What is Gemini API?

The Gemini API gives developers Google's Gemini models through Google AI Studio and Vertex AI, with long context, structured output, tool use and grounding in Google Search. Gemini launched in December 2023.

Gemini models also shape Google's AI Overviews, which makes them central to answer engine and generative engine optimisation.

How I use Gemini API

I call Gemini from WordPress plugins alongside Claude and OpenAI. In my open framework for AI on WordPress, AI Workbench Hub routes work to Gemini models, and AI visibility checks include Gemini when they record how a brand appears in AI answers.
