What is Perplexity?

Perplexity answers questions in plain language and cites the pages it used, which makes it a search engine and a referral source at once. It was founded in 2022 and offers an API for its models.

Whether a brand is cited in its answers is one of the things generative engine optimisation measures.

How I use Perplexity

I check Perplexity answers as part of AI visibility tracking: the same real buyer questions every month, next to ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude, recording whether and how a brand appears.
