What is Core Web Vitals?
Core Web Vitals are Google's measures of real-world page experience. Largest Contentful Paint times how long the main content takes to appear, Interaction to Next Paint measures how quickly the page responds to input, and Cumulative Layout Shift scores how much the layout jumps while it loads.
Introduced in 2020, they come from real Chrome users and feed Google's page experience signals, so a fast lab test is not enough: the page has to be fast on the phones and connections people actually use. INP replaced First Input Delay in March 2024.
How I use Core Web Vitals
At Atlas I worked on the Core Web Vitals of a 20,000+ SKU BigCommerce store, through image handling, code splitting and schema. At TeamQ, speed was part of the standard for every client site, with WP Rocket, Autoptimize and Cloudflare, and some projects were mostly about speed.
This site is built the same way: no page builder, screenshots served as WebP, fonts cut down to what each page needs, and animation that pauses off screen.
